Blueprint for a Neighborhood

 

Activity 1.

Everyone knows what a neighborhood is, but can you define your neighborhood in ten sentences? Write ten sentences that describe what a neighborhood is (means) to you. Use examples from your neighborhood to help you define neighborhood. Be sure to include things like the environment, people, and places. Then, brainstorm your ideas with the class to create a class definition of neighborhood.

Activity 2:

Mapping Your Space in the Neighborhood

Using the back of this paper, draw a map of your block, street, or farm showing the buildings, streets, yards, parks, fields, sidewalks, businesses, alleys, etc. In this space, tell why you think your neighborhood provides an important service to the community.

Activity 3:

Neighborhoods of the Future: TODAY 2020

In the year 2020, what kind of neighborhood will I want to live and work in? Will I need to know my neighbors? What kind of neighbor am I now? What kind of neighbor will I be? Create a chart comparing what it means to be a neighbor in these two time periods.
